    1. Short answer: yes. It was discussed in the video's description, if you care to look.

    1. It also says that in the video description. "For those interested, I've transposed all the different songs into F major. So the chords I'm playing are just F C Dm Bb. I add in a little embellishing chord here and there, but that's always the underlying chord progression."

    2. It's easier for Beginners to play it with G - D - Em - C (there's no barree)

    3. The simple answer is: It's the Rock-Pop Progression of I-V-vi-IV in whatever key you're in. On guitar, I find it easy to play in G {G-D-Em-C), on Ukelele, it works well in C (C-G-Am-F). Use whatever key that works with your range and instrument.

    4. Are there anymore up-to-date songs that could be added to the list?

    5. Many, many songs. It's a never-ending list, and not one I'm updating. If someone else wants to do that, they're more than welcome.

    1. This certainly isn't a complete list, by no means. I expect there would be several hundred songs (maybe more) that have the same chords.

  6. some songs here aren't all four chords 'till the end, they just occur in some parts like africa by toto

    1. Of course not. That's not the point. That would be a much shorter list, because songs will almost always change for a little bit somewhere. This list is songs that just use it somewhere.

    3. I'm not a guitarist, so I have no idea. I play piano. In C, the chords are C G Am F. In G, they're G D Em C. Just look up those, I guess.

    1. Thanks for the suggestions. Not all of those actually fall into this pattern, though they are all (from what I know of them) quite repetitive songs, with only a couple of progressions. But the progression common to all of these songs is I V vi IV.

    2. I found some more recent ones,
      Lighters- Gabz
      Pomeii- Bastille
      Counting Stars- OneRebublic
      Roar- Katy Perry

      Delete
    3. Counting stars isn't a four chords song

    4. It is a 4 chord song, it would just be in a different key... a capo on the 4th fret makes the song Am, C, G, F which is the 4 chords I use for all these songs only my capo would be on the 2nd fret. Ultimately the song does only use 4 chords but in a different order and key

  9. Some of these songs aren't completely same 4 chords throughout; they change at different stages of the song. For instance, Under the bridge's outro has an Am7 in there, also the verses have an extra G#m half step before the A.
It's a good list, but It should be more strictly about the same 4 chords throughout the song in all its stages.
^^Every Breath You Take is definitely NOT a 4-chord song. I understand people would like to simplify it, but this song definitely loses its essence if modified to just 4 chords. It also encourages people to be lazy on the guitar. Beginners sure can simplify it, but I encourage them to try the song the way it is. If you can play a Bm for instance, you shouldn't have a problem trying a C#7, or a Esus9, etc, they look complicated, but they actually aren't.
Icould add: Land Down Under, by Men at Work. It has actually 5 chords, but one of them is just a transitional chord (G) to go into A. So dropping that G would not really cause much of a difference; for the sake of simplification.
    This song is D, A, Bm, *G, A.

    1. That point has already been made by a previous commenter, to whom I have already replied. Please check other comments to make sure that you're not just posting the same thing.
And yes, Every Breath You Take does not follow this pattern. It does use the "icecream" pattern for the chorus, which is I vi IV V (though variation in the length), but that's not the pattern used in these songs.
Down Under is already in the list, at no. 53. Dropping the G would actually mean that it didn't have the same progression as the rest of these; it would need to drop the A at the end.

  10. How could we get the transposed versions of the songs from you? :) thanks!

    1. Hey! The chords are just F C Dm Bb from the video the whole way through; I just did that key to make it easy for me to sing/play. But you can pick any key and do that same thing. You just keep playing the same chords the whole way through; how fast you play changes slightly, but if you know the songs, that shouldn't be an issue. Just keep in mind that not all songs start or finish at the beginning and end of that sequence - some start on the Dm, or the Bb, and a couple on the C.

    1. Sorry, that's not my domain. I did think of doing a list of the Youtube vids for each song, but not all of them have Youtube vids for them. Also thought of doing a short cover of each song, but that never ended up happening either.

    1. I wouldn't be surprised if there are thousands upon thousands. Millions of songs are out there, and there are a heck of a lot that use this at some point in the song. These are just some that I know.

  14. Alphaville Forever Young has more chords if you would mind to play the full song and not only the part which consists of these 4 chords, transposed to natural these are C G Am F G Dm F Am

    1. Good to hear :) I've actually just started to pick up the ukelele as well, and these are definitely some of the songs I've been picking up pretty quickly.

    2. Wow so short with people who have questions, but all the time in the world to bask in compliments and brag about your ukelele skills... Your the worst... Let me put it this way, you are just as shit as the hippie chick Tim Minchin describes in that beat poem (Storm) he does... You know what I'm talking about you insufferable douche...

    3. I'm sorry that you feel that way. That certainly isn't what I'm trying to do; though it is certainly easier to focus on more positive comments than negative ones, and perhaps I've fallen prey to that.
Thanks for the critique, and I hope to get better at this in time.
